A STUDY ON THE PRE- AND POST DENTAL ARCH SHAPE CHANGES ON SECTIONAL AND CONTINUOUS ARCH TECHNIQUE

Abstract
This study was carried out in order to compare the amount of tnoth movement and the arch size and shape following sectional and continuous arch technique treatment.
The sample group for this study consists of 24 persons (older than Hellman stage ¥²c, Angle¢¥s classification D, who received orthodontic tr,atment with first premolar extraction in both jaw at Orthodontic Department of Dankook Univ. Dental Hospital. They are classifled inth Sectional arch tuhn:qn treatment group (Group ¥°) Continuous arch technique treatrnent group (Group ¥±) according to methods of treahllent.
Following concTusions were obtained by cephalometric linear measure-ments and dental arch measurements using pre- and post- treatment lateral cephalograms and plaster study models.
1. Intercanine widths were increased in both jaw of Group ¥° and Group ¥± after treatment. The amolnlt of incease in Group ¥° was sigmificantoy larger than that of Group ¥±.
2. Intermolar widths rrere reduced In both jaw of each groups after treatment. The amount of decrease in Group ¥± was significantly larger than that of Group ¥°.
3. Arch Tengths were decreased in both jaw in each group after treatment. Between two groups, no difference was noted before and after treatment.
4. Considering the antero-posterior movement of canine, canine was moved posterioly in both jaw in each group. The amount of canine movement was significantly different in maxilla between two groups. But in mandible , no difference was found between them.
5. Considering the antero-posterior movement of the first molar, the flrst molar was moved anteriorly in both jaw in each group. But no difference was found between two group.
